I read 6 pages on the Dark Horse website. That may as well be enough to review this. The only way I survived was by listening to this song during it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEHHW0_kH...
I might have not made it. So what did I think of those six pages?
The art work was so regular graphic novel-ish that it didn't stand out in any way. I love how once again Zoey is so self righteous and she and Aphrodite both can wear a short skirt, but Zoey doesn't look like a slut. Great, the slut shaming continues.
The story was taking place after what appeared to be the first book. So you'll have to read more than the first book (which I didn't, I wouldn't have made it because the song probably wouldn't have been released yet). I was slightly confused. Really the story was boring and as predictable as the first book.
So is this really any good? No. But this is the freaking House of Night, which I hate. So I read six freaking pages.
Oh and when Nyx kissed Zoey I almost burt out laughing. As if the HON wasn't so homophobic (girls kissing girls is so gross, stereotypical gay guy who's probably gay to be more "edgy" and he won't date any other gay guy at school cause they're too "girly" for him, so he's a total hypocrite, and I read on Wikipedia he later gets a boyfriend who the Casts have get killed. Why is that so important? Because as a good feminist blogger pointed out in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DInYaHVSL...
It's an extremely common media trope to kill off women and gays in stories; and because of all the dead gay superheroes Perry Moore wrote Hero. Yes I know women and gays can die, too. But the Casts only had two gays in their entire series and she made the main one a depressed dude because his boyfriend had to die. Why couldn't Zoey have died instead? Oh they also began killing off women, too. Great tolerance towards gays and women *sarcasm*! So yes, HON is homophoic. I don't think the Casts have ever met anyone GLBT.) I want to see a picture of the gay guy. I can just imagine him wearing a rainbow scarf or as a drag queen!
Oh and one more thing on the slut shaming: Later in the series Zoey has three boyfriends at once. Ruby Oliver alert! Man, Aphrodite and every other woman is a slut, but not self righteous Zoey.
I'm not reading page seven.
Oh, and I now realize even Perry can't make this better *sobs*.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick Review
I found millions of reasons to hate this book, so I think this is more of a rant than a review.
Let me just say I was a little too judgemental on this book even before I read it but I decided I shouldn't judge it before reading it. Man, this was a book I wish I'd discarded.
Nora is your average girl. She goes to school, has a best friend that sucks, and a mom who left her behind because her dad was murdered and the reason was never explained.
Then she meets Patch.
Patch is a misogynistic bastard who sexually and emotionally, and even physically harasses her. He gets away with it because of the misogynistic bitch of a coach/unbelievable biology teacher where they never even learn about sex. Apparently him doing that to her is fine in Becca's book, in mine that guy would be in deep shit.
So anyway I'm sure you get the idea. So Nora falls for this lowly piece of trash because hes sexy and proves she has no brain whatsoever. And her BFF falls for him, too. Bleh.
Anyway Nora thinks she's going crazy because she hears Patch in her mind as he stalks her (stalking is NOT romantic) and she believes that she nearly died on a roller coaster flying off and nobody noticed it (I didn't understand that scene at all). Nora doesn't know what to do, she's both afraid of Patch and at the same time thinking about him whenever she touches her crotch in the shower. Oh what does a poor, brainless girl like her do? Why of course she falls in l(ust)ve with Patch! And when guys stalk her, she never calls the police or does anything. She allows herself into a motel room with him. Come on, how big of an idiot can a human truly be?
I never felt anything for Nora, plain and simple. She was annoying, brainless, and confusing. I may be an ace lesbian but say if there was a girl version of Patch (the idea is too sick for me to even imagine what she'd look like) I wouldn't be dating her. I would instead be busy reding some feminist novel and telling her to stop harassing me before she can even have a rape fantasy. I am strong willed, this proves feminism can be a good thing! Had Nora been a feminist basically nothing would have happened in this novel! That would have been fantastic! Sadly it wouldn't be on The New York Times bestseller list.
The romance between Nora and Patch was unreal. I hated it and I honestly started to wonder where the shirtless werewolf guy was.
Anyway I'm now going to mention a mindless day time soap opera: General Hospital! I've never seen a second of it but I know that the one woman who got raped fell in love with and married her rapist! In other words: What the fuck?! This clearly happened because I was waiting for the big rape scene, here's how it would go:
Patch came up to me. I noticed his muscles, oh gawd he was so hot! Creepy as he was, I couldn't help myself.
"I won't hurt you," he said soothingly. His hand was on my crotch, gawd this was better than the shower. Then he tore down my pants and Vicky's Secret thong to reveal his Holy Grail. Then he and I had our own living porno. It was so awesome even though I like never said yes!Why did the editor remove that part of the book?
I didn't even get into the action, the storyline was too bad.
Anyway there was WAY too much disorted religion in the book. Here's a list:
-Nephilim are NOT immortal, in the book of Judges some guys (I think Caleb's family, I'm not sure) went on top of a mountain and killed over 30 of them. No sacrifices whatsoever.
-In France in the 1800's I'm pretty sure you knew what a nephilim looked like considering around that time religion was everywhere.
-It blames Eve for the fall of man. Becca Fitzpatrick is a saint because for years saints blamed Eve and all other women for the falling into sin! For that Becca you get a personal fuck you!
So I'll just say this: Nora compared herself to a bar stool, Patch is a misogynistic phyco, and everyone else sucked, too. The End.
Oh and one part that really pissed the feminist I am off was where Vee, Nora's BFF was talking about sex she was licking a fucking lollipop! Sex and lollipops don't mix because in men's pedophile magazines (or regular men's porn magazines) girls lick lollipops as a sex act to give the men a big fat dick pointed to heaven! What a great subliminal message!
1 star.
Cover comments: I didn't like the cover at all. I didn't get it, plus why does the guy have to be shirtless? Is my lack of a sex drive towards anyone or anything failing me here?
