Trigger Warning: Rape and Ciscentricism
TVM Had such great potential, but ultimately research made me realize I have no respect for Eve Ensler. I'll sum this up rather than making a long post.
Imagine a woman over twenty-one who gave a thirteen or sixteen year old (or any underage girl) alcohol, raped her, and gas-lighted her, telling her she didn't need men to be happy sexually, that she was liberated by "feminism" that even if people called it rape, it was good rape. That is an extremely controlling woman, and who is a sexual predator. She abuses her dominance over the girl and uses her as nothing more than something to objectify, exert control over, and use for sex. I would be very concerned for that girl.
To Eve Ensler, that woman gives "freedom from men" (I have heard the play is very misandrist), the picture of feminism (oh fuck, if that's the picture of feminism then I am out of here), and a saint. Eve Ensler, I am hear to inform you that you, yes you, have problems that are in dire need of reevaluating. You are not truly against violence against women, you instead have made it acceptable all over again. No, you can't go all "V-Day" with me, many women have been raped by another woman or in an abusive relationship where her partner was female. Besides, it's a myth that older women never break statutory rape laws with younger women. I have read stories of women who were abused by other women (and when you click the link it was literally in the name of feminism), who were raped by other women (which as explained in the link, is commonly ignored by feminists), and have heard about women who have specifically broke statutory rape laws with younger women (I forgot where I found a story, sorry). Have all you readers clicked on the links and read the stories yet? If you haven't, do it now and prepare to have your faith in humanity broken into a pieces, losing some that will never be found again, meaning you'll never complete all you glue together. What you read is both important to feminism, and what the women did should not be seen as feminist.
I am sorry to all the female rape victims and sexual assault survivors who get a slap in the face from Eve Ensler, who says their rape was somehow good because no cis men with penises were involved. This kind of abuse also happens to trans* women, not just cis. Eve Ensler, you are not a hero, you are a disgrace to all the women who have to remember that someone took advantage of them. Sure the good rape line was removed, but the damage stays. Because of ideas like yours that exist and run rampant in society, more women hang their heads down in shame and balme themselves. Just because a man didn't rape them doesn't mean it wasn't rape, nor does it somehow make it good. These women aren't freed from men, somehow more feminist, or happy. Even if they've gotten over what happened to them, they have to live every damn day knowing what happened to them was something that most people would never see as real rape. Instead, most people would have sick girl-on-girl fantasies, accuse them of being gay, or somehow because men weren't involved, create a double standard that somehow there is good rape. Eve Ensler, there isn't. Because so many women have to go through the aftermath of what happened by themselves, learning what society thinks of what happened to them, a society where your play is considered extremely noteworthy (A.K.A. good), is sickening, and has made me lose all respect for you. I place my priorities not with you, but the women who have to suffer, and of whom you choose to ignore with blissful, not truly feminist ignorance.
Side Note: I hope I'm not the only one who thought the play reinforced the transphobic idea that vagina = women, which also makes me not want to read it. Let's not even get to the part where Eve Ensler thinks women somehow feel emotions with their vaginas (yeah, my vagina just spits blood and clear junk out of it, it doesn't get on a soapbox), or that women somehow are their vaginas, because I am not my frigging vagina.
This was informative. And surprising.
